Job Description

The Human Resources Applications organization supports, develops, and integrates application software systems and enterprise data used by the Payroll Office and the Division of Human Resources (HR) at Virginia Tech. With a strong focus on technology, efficiency, collaboration, and integration, the Human Resources Applications team provides administrative solutions for Virginia Tech employees.

As the Director of Human Resources Applications, you will:
• Lead and inspire a team of technology professionals to optimize our HR strategies, systems, and processes to support our employees and drive business outcomes.
• Participate as a member of the Enterprise Systems leadership team.
• Oversee and drive the strategic direction, implementation, and enhancement of HR applications, data analytics, and process improvement activities.
• Develop applications and reports that solve business challenges
• Serve as the primary Human Capital Management (HCM) systems subject matter expert.
• Develop and maintain strong customer relationships with diverse stakeholders while providing excellent customer service.
• Serve as a project manager on smaller projects and collaborate with full-time project managers on larger projects.
• Possess strong communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and be able to work independently and collaboratively.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in information technology or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent work experience to a master’s degree.
• Leadership and management experience overseeing a team of information technology professionals
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, propose innovative solutions, and drive process improvements
• In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle and extensive experience developing and integrating software
• Knowledge of HR functions, concepts, and processes
• Experience in creating and maintaining customer relationships with a variety of stakeholders
• Demonstrated project management skills with a track record of successful delivery
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a technical role in Higher Education
• Experience with technical leadership over Human Capital Management
• Experience with cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning systems
• Experience with integration platforms and low-code platforms
