Human Resource Generalist

TECHLAB®, Inc., founded in 1989 by scientists from the Virginia Tech Anaerobe Lab, focuses on intestinal diagnostics and research on Clostridium difficile. In 2022, it became part of the SSI Diagnostica Group, a global leader in infectious disease diagnostics with over 600 employees and facilities in Denmark, the US, and China. The group offers solutions for gastrointestinal, respiratory, and bloodborne diseases, as well as general microbiology, and is poised for high growth through private equity funding.
We are looking to add a Human Resource Generalist to our team. The Human Resources Generalist will report to the Director of Human Resources and will be part of an enthusiastic and well-functioning HR team of a total of 3 employees. This position will provide support in the areas of recruiting and onboarding, employee engagement, policy compliance and HR administration. The position is based out of our Radford, VA office and serves as the HR point of contact for that location while also supporting the US and global HR teams. They coordinate and track various projects or leadership initiatives aimed at improving people operations, climate, and work experience for all employees.

Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
• Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and coordinate recruiting efforts, creating and posting job advertisements, scheduling and facilitating interviews, conducting background and reference checks, and preparing job offers.
• Plan and conduct new employee orientation/onboarding, including preparing onboarding packets and processing new hire paperwork.
• Field employees and manager questions about policies, procedures, investigations, and benefits.
• Responding to questions or concerns in a timely, professional manner that demonstrates empathy and a commitment to confidentiality.
• Coordinate employee engagement efforts, including planning company outings, employee events, and holiday parties.
• Write and/or update job descriptions and maintain job description files.
• Maintain various company benefits programs including vaccination, EAP and gym memberships.
• Maintain I-9 Files and assist HR team with employee file maintenance.
• Assist the HR Director with annual benefits Open Enrollment, including 401k plans.
• Ad hoc tasks in our HR team.
Required Qualifications
• Previous experience providing human resources support within a professional setting and a strong understanding of HR operations.
• Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work to meet established deadlines while giving attention to detail.
• Experience with technology and tools such as HR information systems, applicant tracking systems, learning management systems, etc.
• Experience in HR data gathering and analysis.
• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a professional and courteous manner.
• Experience researching issues and developing well-reasoned and insightful recommendations or proposed solutions.

Job Context
TECHLAB maintains a climate-controlled environment for the human resource generalist. A human resource generalist can expect to work a minimum of 40-hours per week. Overtime is occasionally necessary with or without advance notice. Standard company hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, but the employee may qualify for flextime scheduling at the employer’s discretion as well as remote work with manager approval. The employee must lift 15 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent + minimum of five years Human Resource experience
or
Associate’s degree + minimum of four years Human Resource experience
or
B.A. or B.S. + minimum of three years Human Resource experience
Preferred Qualifications
PHR or equivalent certification
