We’re excited to announce that xStar Research has been awarded a $100,000 Commonwealth Commercialization Fund (CCF) grant from the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC). This milestone funding will accelerate our mission to revolutionize sustainable architecture through innovative software.
The Challenge We’re Solving
Decarbonization of the built environment is a challenging task. The stark reality is that buildings contribute to 37% of global carbon emissions – a number that demands immediate and ongoing action. However, architects have long struggled with a fundamental obstacle: the lack of accessible, real-time data to inform sustainable design decisions, especially during the crucial early stages of a project.
Our Vision for Sustainable Architecture
At xStar Research, we’re not just building software; we believe in removing barriers to the sustainable design process. Our SaaS solution integrates with industry standard design software, empowering architects with instant insights into the environmental impact and cost implications of their design choices. This isn’t just about making buildings greener – it’s about making sustainability practical, profitable, and achievable.
Transforming the Design Process
Our CEO, Dr. Rick Fenrich, explains our approach: “The biggest challenge in architectural design is usually balancing a client’s budget, which becomes even harder when incorporating sustainability objectives. Today’s architects lack the tools to easily calculate the tradeoffs between cost and sustainability that are used to support design decisions, improve sustainability, reduce building costs, and market designs to clients.” This is where xStar comes in.
Looking Ahead
We are grateful for VIPC’s vision and support in providing the CCF grant to jumpstart the development and launch of the first version of our software. This is the beginning of a transformation in how we approach sustainable architecture with more intelligent toolsets. We’re empowering architects to design more energy-efficient, low-carbon buildings with unparalleled ease, speed, and affordability.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue our journey to support the future of sustainable architecture.
