Our Story

Founded in 1980, BMI emerged from the academic research community. Our academically trained scientists have published numerous book chapters and papers in peer-reviewed journals. BMI personnel, headquartered in Blacksburg, VA,  have also maintained a commitment to research and development of aquatic biomonitoring and toxicological concepts and are national leaders in the field, presenting papers and seminars at regional and national industry meetings, as well as serving as reviewers of manuscripts and grant proposals.

As the company gained a reputation for providing quality testing and consulting at competitive prices, BMI expanded service throughout Virginia and into surrounding states including Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and around the world.
